Hi Thanks for your suggestions. I did try a memtest86 with nothing unusual. To the best of my knowledge my system is not overclocked. So I tried installing Debian instead of Ubuntu (partitioning the drive between the two of them). Since running Debian, I have had no more crashes either from Frescobaldi, or from my screensaver. If I run Ubuntu, however, I still get the same crashes.
I am not sure what it all means, but I have just taken to running Debian all of the time now.
