molecule-eye - The radeon.audio=1 parameter is only applicable when
using the open-source radeon driver, and not when using the closed
source Catalyst driver.  This probably explains the error you are
getting.

What falstaff was saying is that when they added the radeon.audio=1
parameter to their kernel boot options it caused the HDMI adapter to be
added to the list of chooseable output devices in the Pulseaudio (Sound
configuration) dialog.
