I think, the solution from #61 Johnson is so far the most effective one.
Plus it's really a good idea to just revert to an older version of
kernel and wait for the ubuntu guys to fix the problem. It is really
helpful for me with a Thinkpad W530!

what I did is:
1. change BIOS confiuration to use integrated graphic card
2. reboot (from any kernel)
3. remove the kernel version 27 from Synaptic
4. change the BIOS back to NVIDIA graphic card
5. Reboot using kernel 26. (it is strange that the kernel 27 is still in my 
grub list)
