I have exactly the same problem using the internal SD card reader of an
HP compaq nx5000 laptop:
01:06.3 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments PCI7420/7620 Combo CardBus,
1394a-2000 OHCI and SD/MS-Pro Controller
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 08bc
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
Memory at 90280000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
Trying to copy anything from the card yields the following entries in
/var/log/messages:
Jul 26 00:51:51 raven kernel: [ 3291.528000] tifm_core: MMC/SD card detected in
socket 0:0
Jul 26 00:51:52 raven kernel: [ 3292.592000] mmcblk0: mmc0:b368 SD 993792KiB
Jul 26 00:51:52 raven kernel: [ 3292.592000] mmcblk0: p1
Jul 26 00:51:53 raven kernel: [ 3293.768000] tifm0 : demand removing card from
socket 0:0
Jul 26 00:51:53 raven kernel: [ 3293.768000] end_request: I/O error, dev
mmcblk0, sector 40
[_many_ I/O errors follow, I get a warning about an "unsafe removal"]
Jul 26 00:52:07 raven kernel: [ 3307.004000] tifm_core: MMC/SD card detected in
socket 0:0
Jul 26 00:52:07 raven kernel: [ 3307.264000] mmcblk0: mmc0:b368 SD 993792KiB
Jul 26 00:52:07 raven kernel: [ 3307.264000] mmcblk0: p1
Jul 26 00:52:08 raven kernel: [ 3308.388000] tifm0 : demand removing card from
socket 0:0
Jul 26 00:52:08 raven kernel: [ 3308.388000] end_request: I/O error, dev
mmcblk0, sector 40
[and repeat...]
I consider myself lucky if I can read one file of the card, most of the
time even this does not work. Listing the directory works fine, however.
