Well unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a perfect fix! After a day of it working fine linux is now crashing shortly after bootup with some debug message related to the wireless. I haven't had time to investigate yet. If you go ahead and try things out I would suggest not overwriting the old drivers with the new ones and instead loading them manually with insmod as needed.
