If you really need your scanner as much as you say you do, I'd kindly
suggest to research device support by sane before your next purchase.
http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html#Z-SAMSUNG does not
list your model even for the developmental branch. A search on google
seems to suggest that Samsung might be releasing some funky driver of
their own for Linux which might or might not do the trick for you. If I
were you, I'd be sure to let Samsung know how disappointed I was as a
customer about their lack of support for Linux/Sane and that unless
things changed it would affect my future purchases of their products.
