Ok I'll give 3.10 a go. I am not sure when this bug was introduced as I've had it as long as I can remember, so bisecting might not be useful.
Also, in raring there's no mention of any USB errors in syslog. The device just suddenly stops working. Interestingly, it is always the mouse first (but the keyboard will usually follow some time later).
