Dear Phillip Susi

After an automatic update i restarted my laptop, which is now unable to
boot:
Error message:

error: file '/boot/grub/i386/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found
grubrescue>

********************************

I tried to run the boot repair disk, but without success.
boot repair detects EFI, and asks me to change to EFI boot, but
unfortunately I can't boot from a CD when starting in EFI mode.
I therefore have to switch to "legacy mode", which seems to be an additional
DELL option, which allows me to start from CD/DVD.

Although EFI mode is still enabled in the BIOS settings, the laptop starts
in 'legacy mode'.
same Error as described above after boot repair.

When disabling 'legacy mode', the laptop tries to boot from remote (IPV6),
which is one of the boot options available in UEFI - I guess it does so,
since it can't find a default boot mode on harddisk.

**********************************

boot repair disk copies a log file to:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/5738801

**********************************

These are the contents of /usr/lib/grub directory:

mylubuntu@lubuntu:/usr/lib/grub$ pwd
/usr/lib/grub
lubuntu@lubuntu:/usr/lib/grub$ ls
grub-mkconfig_lib i386-pc

**********************************

Would be great if you could give me any advice how to restore the system
(bootloader).
thank you for your advice,
gerald
