I can't seem to edit my previous comment, so here's a new one - I just
noticed that actually, on my laptop, I am also missing the settings -
the settings I do have are for the touchpad, not the wireless mouse I'm
using. However, the settings were present in 12.10, as I had to adjust
them to reduce the sensitivity.

I have just found an app in Ubuntu Software Centre called "Keyboard &
Mouse" which does allow the adjustment of the mouse sensitivity and
acceleration, and it has worked, so I recommend anyone else with that
issue should try that!
