I've not heard of any problems with this, when your system boots does X
start ok?
If so, could you run "sudo status tty1 tty2 tty3 tty4 tty5 tty6" and
provide the output.
Have you tried other consoles (Alt-F2 through Alt-F6) ? it may be just
tty1 that fails.
