Is this related to mesa and not being able to get the Gnome 3D desktop
to load in 13.04 Raring?
I ask because one recommendation was to install freeglut3-dev. When I
try to install I get the same message:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
freeglut3-dev : Depends: libgl1-mesa-dev but it is not going to be installed or
libgl-dev
Depends: libglu1-mesa-dev but it is not going to be installed
or
libglu-dev
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
If I run apt-get install -f, my output is this:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
If I run dpkg --configure -a, I get nothing!
I had to force an upgrade to Raring. My previous upgrade to Quantal
failed, and I had to complete it as root in the terminal. I believe the
system stored that as a "server upgrade," so that a "desktop upgrade"
would no longer work.
Maybe there is a bug in do-release-upgrade or the upgrade process or I
just created too many issues. I consider it to be a bug if a system
upgrade doesn't work.
If I do an upgrade with a full reinstall, I may not bother with Gnome as
an alternative desktop. My primary session, KDE and the desktop effects
work without mesa on plasma desktop. I'll update if someone asks, and
there is something to report.
