Update, I had a bad USB stick so -
With machine BIOS updated to the latest version - I am not able to boot the machine in EFI with any flavor of Ubuntu back to 12.04, up to and including yesterday's (9/6/2013) build of Saucy. With BIOS set to Legacy I AM able to boot the machine into any flavor of Ubuntu up to and including yesterday's (9/6/2013) build of Saucy, with no extra work involved - it works as designed.
