So the issue here is that the plymouth graphical splash is not loading
at all. Reviewing your report, I see that you have the nvidia binary
driver enabled. Per nvidia upstream, we do not enable any framebuffer
drivers when the nvidia kernel module is loaded, which means that
plymouth has nowhere to draw a graphical splash screen to. This must be
a recent configuration change on your system unrelated to the updates,
because the nvidia driver packages already had this constraint in 12.04.
