Oh, we all agree that it doesn't work. :) I may have misread your comment, but it sounded to me like you were saying "the dd method is just as good," which as I see it would just not be correct. Even if we (reasonably) conclude that one of the methods isn't worth supporting because of simple lack of interest, I think it'd be worth having the drawbacks on the record -- you never know when someone might show up willing and able to work on them.
BTW, it never occurred to me to try the server ISO. I guess it may very well still work!
