I have tested as requested with
linux-image-3.12.0-999-generic_3.12.0-999.201309300405_amd64.deb.
Still no change with lid state as reported by cat
/proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state
Please let me know if there is anything else you'd like me to test.
