With this version, I can seemingly only boot successfully if I force the
GRUB menu to appear by failing a boot once, then entering GRUB's 'edit'
screen, and pressing F10 from there to boot.

I'm not sure why this could happen, but it seems to be somewhat
consistent. Since installing the version from -proposed, I haven't had a
successful one-off boot. I admittedly didn't test the version I
downloaded directly from launchpad as many times.

My /proc/version and apt policy for linux-image follow:
