Booted on Gutsy 2.6.22.9 kernel. No improvement. Loading this webpage
to post this comment took about 45 seconds, for example.

Currently updating via Update-Manager - it looks to be averaging
somewhere between 10-20 kB/s, at which rate it will need almost an hour
to download today's updates. This normally downloads at at least 200+
kB/s -- whatever the update server can dish out.

This is worse than using a dial-up modem, and I'm about 3 meters from
the router, with nothing in between.

Once my system finishes updating will install the driver fresh via the
restricted-driver manager, reboot on the gutsy kernel and attach the
requested logs.
