Thanks for reporting this issue. I'm not able to reproduce this on my Ubuntu Trusty system. (Though note that I'm mainly running Ubuntu, but installed xubuntu-desktop to take a look at this, so an out-of-the-box Xubuntu system might behave differently). Though, when I search for Widelands in the menu, it displays the logo as expected (see attached screenshot). Could you check if this is still the case on an up-to-date system?
Btw, when reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected.
