Okay thank you for the update. I just checked my EFI partition and it only contained GRUB and nothing else, so I guess for me it's a different issue (though it's the same model).
I will have to try completely nuking the SSD with ATA_SECURE_ERASE and installing from a totally clean slate without any OS X at all, on the offchance there's some remnant of rEFInd lurking undetected.
