Have met the same issue with a fresh utopic amd64 install: ext4, 'private' home folder chosen at installation and shared/non-encrypted ext4 /swap partition.
Results: - /swap not mounted (was seen as 'commented' into fstab; wonder if ubiquity have to be blamed there ?) - sudo ecryptsfs-setup-swap also fails: it force the desired /swap entry to be mommented into fstab, and then stop the process. This appear to be seriously broken, and looks like no one care about the ecryptfs bugs, sadly.
