a better (less drastic) workaround is to unset the environment variable
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME, this variable is set to:
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=appmenu-qt5
the following will bring back the missing menu bar
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=
--
