Thank you for the quick reply, Christopher.

The report in comment #5 was against ustream 3.17-rc4, so I will add the
tag kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.17-rc4. RC4 was the latest available
upstream kernel at the time of rebooting the laptop, and it has not been
rebooted since. With my current usage patter the bug seems to need some
time to manifest itself and kernel development moves on in the meantime.

I had difficulties making sense of the instructions "the very top line
at the top of the page (not the daily folder)". In the context of
comment #6 I had the impression they related to the Wiki page and it
took me a while to figure out that they relate to the downloads listings
at <http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D>. For future
triage interactions, I would suggest referring directly to
<http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D>.

3.17-rc7 is now installed on the laptop, and it is, once again, left
running (mostly sleeping) continuously.
