Ok. I tried starting kdm with Alvin's xorg.conf, and that worked!
I then tried to morph Alvin's xorg.conf into my old, and it turns out
that the refresh-rate settings are actually causing this crash.
In my original file it says:
Horizsync 30-70
Vertrefresh 50-160
Where in Alvin's it says:
Horizsync 28-96
Vertrefresh 43-60
With these refresh settings as the only change to my original xorg.conf,
kdm works again.
