Binary package hint: gedit
- When trying to replace the space character " " with nothing "" on a
- relatively small file with many spaces in it on on line, gedit seems to
- hang or is just taking way too long to perform this operation! Use the
- attached file for demonstration purposes and follow along:
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch)
+ Release: 15.04
- 1) open attached file spaces.txt with gedit 2.12.1
- 2) Choose Search->Replace from the menu bar (CTRL-R)
- 3) Enter a space character, " " (don't include quotes), in the 'Search for'
field, and enter nothing in the 'Replace with' field.
- 4) Now click "Replace All" and watch how slow it is! Gedit may need to be
killed...
