If you look in /var/log/syslog, the kernel is very unhappy about reading
from some bits of the CD. There's lots of this sort of thing:
Jan 1 00:08:49 ubuntu kernel: [17180021.216000] SQUASHFS error: zlib_fs
returned unexpected result 0xfffffffd

I'd suggest burning at a lower speed and/or cleaning your CD drive lens.
