Exactly the same problem: With the latest drivers. This bug is still affecting me. I have a desktop with two nVidia cards in an SLI configuration. I need a custom xorg.conf to support my 1440p monitor, but my xorg.conf gets renamed to xorg.conf.yyyymmdd almost every reboot.
