Hi Phillip, Thanks for your response.
I¹m working on a MacMini i7 OS X 10.10 with plenty of resources. I was attempting to install ubuntu as a virtual machine under Parallels Desktop 9. I have limited experience with earlier ubuntu versions operating on other machines either under Parallels or VirtualBox. Always as a guest OS. I took the defaults that were presented, except for memory where I selected 2GB from a large recommended range. Included 8GB partitioned disk, as I recall. First time, a warning appeared, that of 3 listed allocations of disk space for the installation, the second item was 2.65 as I recall, and 3.5 was desired. But I didn¹t know how to change these individual allocations. So I tried to proceed, regardless. Didn¹t get anywhere. Second time I increased the overall size of the partitioned disk for the VM. In the Parallels configuration screen it is described as up to 64GB expandable. I am just attempting to open the VM now. It reports a system error. The mouse only exists on the ubuntu desktop. I had to use a command-tab to get back to this message. That¹s all I can tell you about it. There is another issue that showed up that makes ubuntu unusable in any case. That is: The Display defaults to a very low resolution, and I cannot change it. So low that one cannot ever get to most of the control buttons in any window. With u 14.04LTS the default display is 1440 x 900, and that works fine. But more to the point, one can change the resolution in that version.
