The original install where the problem was experienced was done with
only one disk in place, with root in sda4 and EFI in sda1, swap sda2.
These were set up with manual partitioning.  No RAID.

After I had removed grub-pc and installed grub-efi I added the extra
disk and raided sda3/sdb3 and moved root to there.

The parted listing was taken after I had carried these out.

So RAID is not relevant to the fault reported which occurred during a
non-RAID install.
