I can upon closer inspection never actually switch to the non-functional
headset in the system settings. It always shows the name of the internal
speaker.

Btw the bluetooth indicator and settings show the headset as
"disconnected".

Now I opened the touch "system-settings" (by accident, I naively assumed
that was the command to type) and it showed under "Connected devices"
the headset. I hit disconnect and now the non-functional device is gone.
