I've had this issue on my Samsung laptop with ubuntu 14.04, linux mint 17 and kali linux. As Kali is a Debian distro, it is not only an Ubuntu issue. Disabling the touchpad and using only my mouse allows me to avoid any issua, but I'd like to be able to use my laptop like a laptop.
