I did another installation attempt with the difference that I chose to
format the Btrfs partition for the root filesystem (clearing it
completely), and this time it went through without any errors/crash.

So this made me wondering, is the use case to install Ubuntu over an
existing Ubuntu installation on a Btrfs partition _without_ formating
(and preserving @home) currently not supported?
