So, I have a "fix" now in place, that is awful, but at least I do not have to 
boot, kill and boot again...
I edited /etc/default/grub and made the following changes:

I commented out the timeout for grub, in case I need to make some changes on 
the fly.
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false

But the more important line is this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

So I removed the "quiet splash". This causes no Crypt screen to appear,
but to go directly into "blackscreen-state" and therefore enables me to
enter my passphrase (although, I don't see if/what I am typing). If the
entered passphrase is correct, I see the OS.
