After discussing this with Lars (who is upstream), he has explained that
Liferea takes the string format for time sentences from the translations.
The problem here is that there is no en_GB translation.

So if you tell me how this sentences should look like in en_GB, we will
get this in, and this will be fixed.

#. translation hint: date format for today, reorder format codes as necessary
#: ../src/common.c:149
msgid "Today %l:%M %p"
msgstr ""

#. translation hint: date format for yesterday, reorder format codes as
necessary
#: ../src/common.c:160
msgid "Yesterday %l:%M %p"
msgstr ""

#. translation hint: date format for dates older than 2 days but not older than
a week, reorder format codes as necessary
#: ../src/common.c:173
msgid "%a %l:%M %p"
msgstr ""

#. translation hint: date format for dates older than a week but from this
year, reorder format codes as necessary
#: ../src/common.c:182
msgid "%b %d %l:%M %p"
msgstr ""

#. translation hint: date format for dates from the last years, reorder format
codes as necessary
#: ../src/common.c:185
msgid "%b %d %Y"
msgstr ""

Thanks,
Emilio
