This soundcard works, the problem is getting there. The sound isn't
always perfect, but still..

What you need to do is:
1. Toggle the IEC958 switch in alsamixer or gnome volume control (I believe it 
should be set to OFF, as this disables digital output). In alsamixer this 
switch is the first one, for me anyway.
2. Select "Analog Front" in the gnome sound preferences under Default Mixer 
Tracks (and possibly in the Volume Control preferences, although the gnome 
setting might be automatically used by volume control).
3. Make sure your speaker cable is plugged into the correct output (L/R or 
Headphones), as there are a few of them! hehe
4. Make sure to unmute Analog Front and set it to a reasonable level.

It took me a long time to get this information by testing here and
there. Now it works perfectly (aside from occasional sound
imperfections).
