I tested this with with the latest (download yesterday) Gutsy CD and the
sound actually worked. However the volume control did not work because
it was set to modify the wrong mixer channel.

This card seems to not have a "master channel" which forces the user to
choose a certain output to change volume for.

I think that perhaps the ubuntu developers could create a special
configuration profile for this card to make sure that the volume control
works out of the box... All that is needed is to make sure that the
volume control is set to "Analog Front" instead of the first available
mixer channel and that IEC958 is set to OFF.

I've had this card for almost 2 years soon and there is still no change,
so perhaps waiting for ALSA (no offence to those hard working folks), is
the wrong choice here.
