Ok, well:

1) Why didn't this issue affect anyone before? Did Linux simply not set
a new one or anything different from the bold?

2) What about having a compromise and just allowing the user to
configure what they want Linux to change the font to, if anything? That
would do it for me if I could at least change it back to how it was and
not have Linux changing it to something I can barely read and don't
want.
