No, I could never provoke/reproduce this behaviour. It was caused by using "reboot", while bash was hanging quite strangely before.
Also, I have apport disabled already on the server, because I was plagued by all my php-fcgi processes crashing at the same time and apport hooking all resources (bug 119622).
