Hi,

This has been requested before via bug proxy bridge at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-3.3/+bug/1559195 or
LTC-139325.

Please use the bridge to file bug reports, or specify the correct
architecture tags either "s390x" or "architecture-s39064" should do the
trick to generation notifications for the relevant engineers.

However, the comments that have been made on the previous bug report still
stand:
- libstdc++.so.5 is not supported on ubuntu, and has no SRU or security support
what's so ever
- Ubuntu s390x port is only supported on zEC12 and up
- There is no s390 (31) bit port of Ubuntu
- There is minimal s390 31 compatibility, that was requested and delivered as
part of a charge request (please talk to hws)
- zEC12 was released long after ubuntu was using libstdc++.so.6
- Please use libstdc++.so.6, anything else is not supported. We really do not
want anybody to run libstdc++.so.5 on LinuxONE mainframes.

Last but not least - there is no open source or proprietary software for
s390x that requires libstdc++.so.5 that Ubuntu developers are aware of.

I can review the patch proposed, but I am not commiting to uploading it
or supporting it as part of the Ubuntu on z offering at all.

Could you please explicitly specify which software and versions you
believe requires libstdc++.so.5 on s390x?

I've looked really hard, and I've only found some older versions of IBM
products on x86_64 that require libstdc++.so.5, yet same version of said
products requires libstdc++.so.6 on s390x. Hence non-applicable for
Ubuntu on s390x.

Regards,

Dimitri.
