this might be connected to another crash:
When I was trying to do the upgrade, when I was still in ubuntu 14.04
after the installer had downloaded all of its packages and I think it
was starting to do some modifications I'm not sure what, while I was
waiting for this to finish , I was watching a movie on vlc and I
accidentally pressed the windows key which is supposed to bring up this
window with search your computer and right after this key press the
system froze - there was no reaction from any keystroke or mouse action
- even after waiting for 2-3 minutes after the freeze. So I did the
forced shutdown.
after this I followed the instructions on the askubuntu help page how to
deal with this interrupted upgrade and I successfully upgraded... I
think. until this program crash happened.
