There is currently a bug report open regarding a bug in glibc behavior
with threads when lock elision is enabled (a new feature in the version
of glibc in 16.04):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1640518

Is it possible the problem seen in TensorFlow is the same? There's
various information on that bug about how to test with lock elision
disabled, links to glibc test builds, etc.
