The underlying issue is in knopflerfish-osgi, one of the libraries
freeplane uses. The good news is that this has already been reported and
fixed. A new version of the library should be available on Ubuntu 16.10
shortly. I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug 1631361 which contains
more details and current status on the issue.
