I wanted to thank you that you debugged the issue and identified a
workaround that you posted here.
Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem
(in this case to some extend due to changed upstream support for a
feature), rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as
Incomplete.
