That does not make the brightness keys work, unfortunately. Using those causes the keys to be recognized by the system, and the popup showing the brightness level will come up and indicate that the brightness is being changed, but the actual screen brightness doesn't get changed.
Using those parameters also makes the Gnome brightness slider stop changing the brightness.
