Actually I got it to install by turning on the BIOS' EFI options.  Can't tell 
you why that worked..  Windows 10 was running without the EFI options (as I had 
problems with EFI some time ago when installing an earlier version of Ubuntu).  
When I turned on EFI, Ubuntu installed straight through.
Other than some video driver issues it's been running great (and I haven't 
booted to the Windows side since..)
