Are you able to reproduce this issue if you don't use your .desktop
launcher with the xsel command in it?

It looks like xsel isn't getting the command line arguments, and is
printing out the contents of the clipboard. Standard output for
applications run via a launcher go to syslog.

In other words, I think this issue is related to your configuration, not
with a default environment.

You seem to have found a work-around by using Terminal=true, I suggest
using that.

I am closing this bug, as there is no action we can take to fix your
environment.
