Maybe that's somehow related to graphics driver. I've tested on my
wife's laptop (Intel) and I can't reproduce the issue from my desktop
(nVidia).

Also I'm not able to install gnome-session:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt install gnome-session
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package gnome-session is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'gnome-session' has no installation candidate
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$
