Hmm.. It would be a bit late for this kind of change in Xenial, wouldn't
it? I added a Debian bug from March 2016 with a similar request
(transitional package), but that bug hasn't been fixed.
Which packages and scripts *depending* on fonts-droid do you have in
mind? (Can't help to think that they should have been changed by now...)
