Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.
I tried a fresh install of the docker.io package in Ubuntu Artful 17.10
and it completed without incidents.
Specifically, I just ran "sudo apt install docker.io".
Could you please:
- share how you tried to install the docker package
- show the output of these commands:
sudo systemctl status docker.service docker.socket
