Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.
Your smb.conf is configured for a role of standalone server, yet you are
trying to start the samba-ad-dc service which is meant only for active
directory controllers.
Could you please show the output of this command:
sudo systemctl status smbd.service nmbd.service winbind.service samba-
ad-dc.service
