Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

When I boot, my sound only works about half of the time. I have two sound
cards and it seems that which card is index 0, and which is index 1 is fairly
random (it's possible that it alternates each boot, I'm not sure). Right now
if I do 'cat /proc/asound/cards' I get:
 0 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
                      HDA NVidia at 0xfebd8000 irq 22
 1 [Live           ]: EMU10K1 - SBLive! Platinum [CT4760P]
                      SBLive! Platinum [CT4760P] (rev.5, serial:0x80401102) at
0xc800, irq 17

but at other times they will be reversed (Live listed as 0, NVidia as
1).

I know I can pin the index in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base but many users
will not know how to do this; the ordering of sound cards should be
consistent from boot to boot without having to do any tweaking of
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (right now I have the default file from the
package there).

BTW, the NVidia is my integrated card, and the SBLive is plugged into
one of my pci slots.
